Forening og forandring? Betydningen av deltakelse i innvandrerorganisasjoner for kvinner

Sammendrag:
Bakgrunn: I stadig økende grad består den norske befolkning av innbyggere med innvandrerbakgrunn. Det fører til behov for økt kunnskap om prosesser, som kan bidra til mangfold, deltakelse og inkludering på ulike samfunnsarenaer. Det er i liten grad forskningsbasert materiale på i innvandrerorganisasjonene og hvilken betydning deltakelse i organisasjonene kan ha for enkeltmedlemmer.
Formål: Med mitt forskningsarbeid ønsker jeg å se på den sosiale, kulturelle og politiske betydning deltakelse i utvalgte innvandrerorganisasjoner i Bergen har for kvinner. Et av nøkkelbegrepene i faget samfunnsarbeid er sosial deltakelse. Økt kunnskap om innvandrerkvinners muligheter og begrensinger til sosial deltakelse vil ha en samfunnspolitisk betydning, og være et bidrag til utviklingen av faget, samfunnsarbeid.
Materiale og metode: Materialet er innsamlet gjennom kvalitative semistrukturerte dybdeintervju med kvinner fra tre ulike innvandrerorganisasjoner i Bergen. Analysen av de transkriberte intervjuene baserer seg på ad hoc meningsgenererende metode. Kategorier og mønstre ble utviklet med utgangspunkt i dataene. Resultatene blir diskutert i lys av blant annet Bourdieus teori om makt og ulikhet og annen teori innen samfunnsarbeid.
Konklusjon: Kvinnene forteller om foreningenes fellesskap og aktiviteter, som er av stor betydning for tilgang på sosial og kulturell kapital. Økt kapital gir muligheter for økt deltakelse på andre sosiale felt og dermed muligheter for økt integrering. Deltakelse i foreningene bidrar også til et politisk engasjement, men da først og fremst i forhold til fokus på menneskerettigheter.

Background: The Norwegian population consists increasingly of inhabitants with immigrant background. This makes it necessary to understand processes that can contribute to plurality, participation and inclusion on various areas in the society. There exists little research based material on immigrant organizations in Norway and on the impact participation in these organizations can have for individual members.
Purpose: The purpose of this research is to study the social, cultural and political significance of participation in some selected immigrant organizations for women in Bergen. A key concept in community work as a field is social participation. Increased knowledge about immigrant women`s possibilities and limitations as regards social participation will have a societal importance and contribute a contribution to the development of community work as a field.
Material and methodology: The material is collected through qualitative semi-structured in-depth interviews with women from tree different immigrant organizations in Bergen. The analysis of the transcribed interviews is based on ad hoc meaning generating method. Categories and patterns were developed with a starting point in the data. The results will be discussed in light of, Bourdieu`s theory of power and inequality and other bodies of theorethical work within community work.
Conclusions: The women tell about the community and the activities of their organizations, which have an importance for access to social and cultural capital. Increased capital makes possible increased participation in other social fields and thereby increased integration. Participation in the organizations who contributes to political involvement, but then primarily related to a focus on human rights.
